Amaravati: State Energy Minister Gottipati Ravi Kumar informed the Assembly on Wednesday that there are currently 22.30 lakh free agricultural electricity connections across the State. Responding to a question raised by MLA Konathala Ramakrishna, the Minister elaborated on the government’s initiatives to provide free power supply and expand agricultural electricity connections.
The Minister stated that after the coalition government led by Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu assumed office, 102,538 new free agricultural electricity connections have been sanctioned across the three DISCOMs.
He further noted that approximately 46,000 agricultural connections are currently pending and assured that all pending connections will be sanctioned before the upcoming agricultural season. For the financial year 2025–26, an amount of Rs839.44 crore has been spent by the three DISCOMs towards providing free power supply to farmers.
Under the PM-KUSUM scheme, 261,481 agricultural electricity connections have been sanctioned in the state so far.
The Minister highlighted that implementation of feeder-level solar projects will result in savings of Rs1,059 crore on power purchases for the state government. Solar power plants are being established near 11 kV lines, which will enable the supply of electricity at a stable tariff for up to 25 years. Land acquisition for feeder-level solar projects is underway, and tenders have been invited for 1,035 MW capacity. Construction of the solar plants will commence from May.
The government aims to achieve 4,000 MW of power generation capacity by 2028–30. Once the feeder-level solar plants become fully operational, farmers will be provided with 9 hours of quality power supply during daytime.
